Ingredients:
- 500g flour
- 200ml lukewarm milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- Spices to taste
Instructions:
1
To prepare the yeast: In a small bowl, mix the lukewarm milk, dry yeast and sugar. Let stand for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
2
Knead the dough: Sift the flour into a large bowl and add the salt. Make a well in the centre, pour in the yeast mixture prepared earlier, the egg and the melted butter. Knead a smooth and elastic dough by hand or with a mixer fitted with the kneading hook. You can add bread cubes if you like.
3
Rising: cover the dough with a kitchen cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour to double in volume.
4
To shape the dumplings: divide the risen dough into 2-3 parts. Form each part into a long roll. You can wrap them in a cloth to keep their shape during cooking.
5
To cook the dumplings: bring water to the boil in a large pot, add salt. Place the dumplings in the boiling water. Cook for about 20 minutes. The dumplings are cooked when they float to the surface and are firm to the touch.
6
Serving: remove the cooked dumplings from the water, remove the cloth (if you have used one), and slice them. Serve warm as a side dish with meat dishes with sauces.
