Chilli con Carne is one of the most popular dishes often associated with Mexican cuisine, but its roots go back to the American Southwest. Its name translates as ''chilli with meat'', which in itself suggests the characteristic combination of hot chillies and rich, succulent meat. Many believe that chilli con carne originally originated in Texas, where it was first prepared by Mexican immigrants who combined traditional meat dishes with their love of spices. This dish quickly gained popularity for its intense flavour, ease of preparation and ability to warm the body and soul during the cold months.


The basic ingredients of chilli con carne include minced meat, chillies, beans and tomatoes, but regional versions are often adapted for a personal touch. Today, chilli con carne is known for its adaptability and is a popular dish in many cultures where it is prepared according to their own recipes and tastes.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • Minor chilli
  • 1 can (400 g) chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tin (400 g) red beans
  • 1 tin (400 g) of corn
  • 3 tablespoons BAM Chilli con Carne seasoning mix
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 200 ml beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon tomato concentrate
  • Fresh coriander and lime juice for serving (optional)

Instructions:

Heat the olive oil in a large pan and add the chopped onion. Fry until soft and golden brown. Then add the chopped garlic and the red and green peppers and chilli and continue roasting. Add the minced beef and fry until it is completely browned and has broken into small pieces.

Stir in the Chilli con Carne seasoning, sugar, salt and black pepper. Add the chopped tomatoes and tomato concentrate and stir until the spices are well incorporated into the mixture.

Stir in the beef stock and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer on a low heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then add the red beans and corn and cook for a further 10 minutes. Serve with lime juice and fresh coriander, if desired.
